Astronomy truly engages people. When I stand on a street corner with my telescopes and ask folks, "Would you like to see Saturn?" They jog over and take a peek. After the first glimpse through the telescope, if they believe it is real, they look up at the sky and see if they can see it with their naked eye. Then we talk about Saturn, its rings, its moons, its color, its everything. Then we talk about light and time, about heaven and earth, about philosophy and everything else. What a beautiful science!
That's why I haul my telescopes to busy street corners to show the public nocturnal treasures - the Moon, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and other worlds in the distance -- because people just love looking at them. (And I get a major geek treat when they admire my gear).
Its my hope that the following pages may help people learn more about astronomy.
Passers-by enjoying a view of Saturn ...
